"One needs a voice teacher to learn singing technique, to solidify his singing foundation, and to add more delicate techniques as he continues his progress. Strengthening, training, and stamina-building are taught and drilled in the voice lessons. A voice teacher suggests and assigns repertoire; first, as a learning tool, later as a showcase to be added to the student's own portfolio."

Learn without prejudice

When someone makes the decision to be a student, this means a decision has been made to "learn."

Pradichaya Poonyarit Voice Studio | Lehigh Valley, Easton, PA

I am a voice teacher. I’ve taught students for 24 years. I’ve taught young students and older students. Voice teachers also passed through my studio door. I am known for occasionally firing students. I don't necessarily like the reputation, but I hold the art of singing so dear. I cannot compromise just to make someone else feel good (which would mean neglecting my job as a teacher, and lying), or for money (have you ever heard of anyone getting rich from voice teaching?)

When students come for validation, rather than to learn to improve their singing, it's already a hard beginning. When students refuse to see their bad habits, they can't fix them -and neither can I. When students disrespect composers by repeatedly singing the repertoire in only the way they want (in other words, incorrectly, and not in the way the pieces were composed), or acknowledge but refuse to fix their mistakes, I cannot teach them. When students disrespect me, this ends it right there.

When someone makes the decision to be a student, this means a decision has been made to learn. One learns from the experts -those who have more knowledge in the area of interest. Once the decision has been made, be a student. Take the knowledge. Learn. Do not resist. Do not challenge the knowledge of the teacher. This is not about pride. Do not carry any baggage into the learning arena. Learn without any prejudice, and I promise that I will teach you to the best of my knowledge and ability. Smart students will take what they learn and make it work for them. Be smart students.
