"One needs a voice teacher to learn singing technique, to solidify his singing foundation, and to add more delicate techniques as he continues his progress. Strengthening, training, and stamina-building are taught and drilled in the voice lessons. A voice teacher suggests and assigns repertoire; first, as a learning tool, later as a showcase to be added to the student's own portfolio."

Policy

Pradichaya Poonyarit Voice Studio | Lehigh Valley, Easton, PA

Voice lessons represent a commitment from both the teacher and the student.

Voice study is an endeavor which requires physical strength and mental focus from both the teacher and the student. Therefore, it is made up of great effort from both sides. The teacher invests in her student as much as her student does in her. Before we both start our new exciting journey toward your vocal freedom and discovery, we must come to an agreement in order to make sure that our exploration will be going smoothly and steadfastly toward our goal with no interruption. Please take the time to read and understand the studio rules about payment, scheduling, and canceling. Lessons will be scheduled only after the payment is received.

LESSONS

Pradichaya Poonyarit Voice Studio | Lehigh Valley, Easton, PARESPECT MY TIME.
BE PREPARED TO WORK HARD.

Great people in every field- art, sports, medicine, etc.- constantly develop and refine their talents through education, training, and practice. If one aspires to be a serious singer, he needs to study singing as seriously as an aspiring doctor or athlete studies his craft.

I take seriously my role as vocal instructor, and I expect my students, as well, to put forth their best efforts while in the studio.

Physical activity should always be preceded by a thorough and purposeful warm-up in order to ensure that it will cause no harm and focuses the individual's efforts properly. Singing is no exception. As a student develops both the conscious and unconscious understanding of what is expected of him, this warm-up period becomes much more efficient, and therefore shorter. When first starting out, however, most students spend the majority, if not the entirety of their lessons working solely on vocal exercises designed to reinforce good technique, as well as to "wake up" their voices. Each student is unique, so these will, by necessity, vary from individual to individual, and even from lesson to lesson. Eventually, up to and even more than half the lesson can be spent working through the application of technique through repertoire, but every hour will always begin with a warm-up period. One more important factor must also be mentioned: while microphones, karaoke machines, and other external enhancements have a very important place within the music industry, they have nothing to do with the voice itself, and they are not utilized inside our studio.

EXPECTATION

Pradichaya Poonyarit Voice Studio | Lehigh Valley, Easton, PAALWAYS BRING: A recording device to record your lessons. It is your responsibility to review the session during the week and to take what you learned in the lesson to fix/adjust the way you are singing.

Endeavor to leave all troubles outside the door and be ready to learn. Once you set your foot in my studio, both you and I will give you and your voice our complete attention.

EXPECT my honest opinion on your singing. Do not come looking for validation without the willingness to accept what you will have to do to improve. DO NOT EXPECT me to pat you on the back or treat you with kid gloves: I am here to help you find the best way you can sing, and your cooperation is mandatory. RESISTANCE TO LEARNING requires too much negative energy, not to mention that it will drag you way behind; and, DO NOT COME WITH AN EXPECTATION THAT I WILL DO ALL THE WORK. -It's your body, so naturally you are better at working with it.

Set aside -between your last lesson and the next one- 30-60 minutes each day to work on your voice. Go over the recording of your last lesson. Practice to get the muscles in new -and, healthy- habits.

BRING TWO EXTRA COPIES OF YOUR MUSIC: one for me, another for the accompanist. You should have your own copy. Be ready to make notes in your music! BRING A PENCIL.

LEARN YOUR ASSIGNED MUSIC ON YOUR OWN TIME. Learn the rhythm. Know what the song means. Pronounce the words and read the words to the rhythm. Learn the notes.

ARRIVE at least five minutes prior to your lesson time. DO NOT BE LATE -or you will not have a full-hour lesson. ONLY RING THE BELL WHEN THE SINGING STOPS. -I'm probably teaching another student. As much as you don't want other students to interrupt your lesson, they don't want you to interrupt theirs.
