"One needs a voice teacher to learn singing technique, to solidify his singing foundation, and to add more delicate techniques as he continues his progress. Strengthening, training, and stamina-building are taught and drilled in the voice lessons. A voice teacher suggests and assigns repertoire; first, as a learning tool, later as a showcase to be added to the student's own portfolio."

Voice lesson is not a singing lesson

Pradichaya Poonyarit Voice Studio | Lehigh Valley, Easton, PA

A voice lesson is not the same thing as a singing lesson. Whereas a singing lesson is a coaching session designed to refine and to give extra pointers regarding specific learned repertoire, a voice lesson is where one's body is being taught the proper way to support the voice, airflow is being consistently directed and controlled, and the throat is being trained.

Proper vocal training requires a well-trained throat and is important in all aspects of every singing style: classical, operatic, church, choir, music theatre, jazz, country, blue grass, pop, rock, rap, and many other types of music not mentioned here. It is also equally important for the speaking voice. An untrained throat doesn't have consistent strength and cannot be relied upon when used for a long period of time.

If one is serious about using the voice correctly and have it last as long as she wants, she should get the body taught, learn how to direct a consistent airflow, and train for a healthy and firm throat through finding the right teacher and taking lessons.
